What you will want to do is look at all the features available on P&S cameras and then match the camera with the features you want with what your budget is. I usually suggest that you spend about $25 to $50 more than your actual budget to get the camera you REALLY want.

I would recommend Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 MP with 12x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD .Great zoom camera and take great picture quality.

Check out the $230 Canon Powershot SD1200IS ELPH compact digital camera [from Amazon.com] which is currently check rated by Consumer Reports [September ‘09 issue]. When set to "P," "10M 3648X2736," "Vivid" and video format "320X240 30 fps," will generate "stunning" color still and home movies. And the built-in quality microphone is capable of recording concert music as well.
