Digital camera megapixel file size question?
Posted on Nov 04, 2009 under Digital news and reports |We have 2 digital cameras, one is set on 3 MP and photos come out at .5 MB size. My new camera is set on 2 MP and photos come out at 2.5 MB size. I would like to set my new camera at least at 5 MP but don’t understand why it’s taking up more memory than the other camera?

It probably has to do with what type of image file the camera is saving. Different file types use different compression algorithms, so they come out different sizes. Look in the options on your camera and see if there’s an option to change the file type. Keep in mind though that the more compressed image types can lead to a degradation in the quality of the image.

megapixles are the quality of the picture the higher the pixel the higher the memory it takes so my iphone is 8MP and it takes up 5MB and it all depends on the amount of stuff in the picture and the type of the memory card.
