What is the best digital camera I could buy?

nikon or canon but nikon would be my first choice.
as for model……you need to surf the features you want to find the particular one that will fill your needs.
do you need a camera thats also a camcorder ? helpful in making short videos with sound such as sending a distant relative a happy birthday wish by way of emailing the video file to them from you and your family.
3x optical zoom is found on all low end cameras. When you get into the 4x , 5x, and above optical zoom (not to be comfused with digital zoom) then you get into a better quality camera. Multiply your optical zoom by your digital zoom to get your total zoom power for your lens performance.
and pay attention to the flash. A small flash means your best picture is 15 feet away or less. A larger camera that has a larger flash or else a separate flash you attach gives you a good shot from farther than 15 feet away.

I would have to recommend a canon or panasonic. Nikon I’ve noticed in the point and shoots have been going down hill. canon sd780 and sd960 seem nice, I play with those on my down time at Best Buy. The 780 and 960 also make a good little hd camcorder, I just don’t really recommend zooming with them while in the video mode. I did get my mom a Panasonic lumix because there very easy to use but overall for what your looking for really recommend looking into the two canons.
