Nikon vs. Canon digital point and shoot.?
Posted on Dec 04, 2009 under Digital news and reports |I’m looking to buy a new point and shoot digital camera and aren’t sure which to pick, here are the specs:
Nikon Coolpix S620
12.2 MP
4x Optical Zoom
2.7in HighRes LCD
4 way image stabilization
$159.99
Canon PowerShot SD7801S
12.1MP
3x Optical 4x Digital Zoom
2.5in PureColor LCD
Optical image stabilization
$179.99
I’m not sure which is the best for me, I’m just looking for general photograph capabilities people, scenes, landscape, some macro/micro, but nothing complicated…both seem like great choices but neither is the clear cut winner. Which do you think is the best? If you have a different suggestion please include the specs and price, as well as the link where I can find it. THANKS!!!

I’m going with brand loyalty to say Canon, but the Nikon model seems like it’s been put out later since the price undercuts Canon’s and the specs are just slightly higher. Canon’s stabilization is better than Nikon’s. I like the interface of Canon’s a million times better than Nikon’s P&Ss. Otherwise, you’re right - there is no clear cut winner.

I have had both brands of cameras; but the best was the Canon. You could check out http://www.qvc.com and see what they are offering and do a comparison. You can also call their customer service and speak to a rep that can help you.
Good luck! They are having good sales right now.

Brand preference=nikon
but in this case, the Canon does seem to be better. The "4 way image stabilization" is a scam–that nikon model has only software based image stabilization. Don’t let the extra .1 megapixel change your decision either–though the extra multiple of zoom might make a difference. In this case, I would go with the canon, though I have had some bad experience with a few of their cameras.

You are right there is no clear cut winner. Of the two I’d vote for the Canon SD780 IS. But right now for real value I’d be buying the Canon SD1200 IS. Both cameras have very good image quality, but the SD1200 IS is $150+shipping at Newegg on line and 10 bucks more +shipping at Beach Camera a reputable camera store on line.
Check out Website dpreview.com for specs and prices. Go to left side and highlight camera database.

It is rare for me to find something on the cyberspace that’s as entertaining and fascinating as what you have got here. Your page is lovely, your graphics are great, and what’s more, you use reference that are relevant to what you’re talking about. You’re certainly one in a million, well done!
