Can I "secretly" download pictures from a digital photo frame?

As part of a Christmas present for a classmate, I want to take the photos that she has from a digital photo frame at her house and load them up onto a photo frame for school.

If I hook up a laptop or something to the photo frame, will she know that someone is messing with her stuff? Just curious, I do not own a digital photo frame. I’m wondering if there is a "last accessed" or "date modified" on the software included in the photo frame.

My intentions are good, I just don’t want to ruin the surprise as the gift will not be seen for a few weeks to come.

I don’t own a digital frame, but can you use it as an external hard drive? In other words, can pictures be "stored" on it, and then uploaded to a different computer?

I want to share some of my photos that I have at work. The original files are at home. This would keep me from having to go home to get my computer.
