Can I get dolby dts digital sound out of any laptop with an hdmi output?

Posted on Dec 07, 2009 under Digital news and reports | 18 Comments

I want to buy a new laptop with an hdmi output. I am going to connect this laptop to a sound reciever that supports dolby dts digital and a bunch of other surround sound options. With this setup, I want to be able to hear the best sound my sound reciever will allow for (I assume that’s dolby dts digital). Will just any laptop with hdmi allow me to do this or do I have to get one with a sound/graphics card that supports 7.1 surround? I was told that any would work cause sound receivers up convert the sound but it sounded too good to be true so thought I’d ask. I have a 5-speaker set-up and sometimes special effects are louder in some of the speakers than others to give the sound movement effect. I want to retain this and couldn’t believe that just "upconverting" would be enough.

Thanks.

I remember the old version of Microsoft Paint could do it easily, but i cant find the color invert option on the new version(Windows Vista/7). Am i just missing it, or has it been removed? Also, if you know about a free photo software that can do it, please let me have the name or a link. Thank you

Should I buy a Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB?

Posted on Dec 07, 2009 under Digital news and reports | 18 Comments

or 500GB? I heard for a 1TB hooking up to a 2.0 USB computer is going to corrupt my files. I only heard but I don’t know if its true. Should I just stick to a 500GB? I also considered an Acomdata brand. I don’t know what to get regarding capacity and or brand. I will back up important data, documents etc.. some music. Any advice?

I don’t know much about digital cameras and need help with what kind I should buy?

Posted on Dec 07, 2009 under Digital news and reports | 18 Comments

i am just going to list the types of things i am looking for. i don’t know much about digital cameras so forgive the ignorance. :) thanks in advance for your suggestions!

most important: i want to be able to take good quality photos outside at night and also indoors where there may be dim lighting; shock resistant because i don’t have a very steady hand; i don’t necessarily care much about how far it will zoom; price anywhere under $300; not bulky; i don’t want to have to focus the lens; greater than 5 megapixels.

thanks again for your help :)
