I would suggest Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 MP with 12x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD.High quality 25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens.Great image qualty and also take HD video.

I recommend cameras with an optical viewfinder. The LCD viewfinder is almost useless in daylight. If you plan to take pictures outside in the daylight, you will need the optical viewfinder. Canon is the only company that has some compact models with the optical viewfinder. The Canon SD780 IS is an excellent example.

retired is correct buy a camera with a viewfinder. The Canon SX200 IS doesn’t have one. It’s ludicrous to hold a camera away for your body and try to hand hold a camera very steady. Plus the fact LCD screens drain your batteries quickly. I suggest the Fuji S1500. Very good image quality, very good on batteries, has viewfinder and aperture/shutter priority. According to Website dpreview.com Crutchfield selling it for $162-+shipping on line.
My second choice would be the Canon SD1200 IS. Also has very good image quality.

Those are the cameras in your range. It is a good site, cheap and all. The Canon Powershot series are solid cameras.
