Western Digital 1Tb screwed up other WD drives?
Posted on Jan 28, 2010 under Digital news and reports |I just bought a WD 1Tb external hd today, and when I plugged it in, I went through the install and all that crap, but when I went to copy my files from my other 2 WD Passport drives, neither one of them were recognized, As well, the light on them, that let you know they are on, are not coming on at all. I’ve tried different cords and all that, but they were both working just fine before I plugged in the new one. Help!!

Hi,
There is no way the actual hard drive caused this problem. You have done something wrong with the installation.
Access the BIOS at boot, press (F2,F11, Del) the necessary button as shown on boot screen to enter set up. and check your hard drives there.

Are all these drives connected at the same time?? How are they connected? into the PC or using a USB hub???
Are the passports powered by the USB cable or do they have another external power source? I am thinking that Passport drives get power from the USB cable.
If they are powered by just the USB cable - then ;
You may have to get a powered USB hub, one that gets power from the wall, either the motherboard of your PC or the hub you may be using can’t supply enough current for all those drives.

In no case has the 1TB hard drive caused this! It’s either bad cable connections, a damaged cable or incompatibility. Try installing them manually with add new hardware wizard, check the bios (if they aren’t external), try checking if they’re recognized on another pc (your friend’s perhaps…) and if that doesn’t solve the problem, call the store where you got the 1TB hard drive. This happens from time to time and sometimes it’s really irritating providing you have important data on those other hard drives…
