What are fully adjustable SLR, DSLR or prosumer digital cameras?

I am going to be taking a course in photography and it says a fully adjustable SLR, DSLR or prosumer digital camera is required. I was wondering if this camera is a prosumer camera because I know its not a DSLR or SLR.

Digital camera battery?

I have the Casio Exilim. I love my camera, but the battery is terrible!! I can fully charge it and after taking 6 or 7 pictures it will tell me the battery is low and shut off. After a few minutes, I can turn it back on, but it will shut off again after 2 or 3 pics. Is this normal for a digital camera or do I need a better battery?? I use the NP60 battery..3.7 v. This isn’t the one that came with the camera..that one was even worse so I bought this one!!!

How does digital zoom work exactly?

I just ordered a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 digital camera that I bought mostly because of its high optical zoom for a P&S and also because it seemed better in reviews than the Canon SX200 IS, even though I’ve always been partial to Canons

My question is though, how much does digital zoom degrade picture quality when combined with optical zoom? For example, the ZS3 has 12x optical and 4x digital and is 10.1 megapixel, so I’m assuming that maxed out, I would get 48x. But what would the quality of such a picture be? Would it be 10.1/4 = roughly 2.5 megapixel, or does that work differently?
Yes yes, I know that digital zoom degrades quality, I am trying to figure out at which ratio though. Assuming I used 12x optical and 3x digital for a picture, would I get a pic with roughly 3.3-3.4 megapixel quality? Since that would still look very good in normal print size

So I’m trying to upload a few videos from my digital cam to youtube. Their already saved to the computer, but their saved in AVI files & DV files.
