Western Digital 1TB SATA HDD Question ?
Posted on Feb 02, 2010 under Digital news and reports |I will be installing a new hard drive into my Antec 900 Case. Its a Western Digital 1TB SATA HD.
I have the Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit OS on my older Seagate 500GB HD. How do I transfer my data onto the Western Digital 1TB HD ??? I only have the Win 7 Pro 64-Bit Upgrade disc, not the full version. But I do have the full version of Vista Ultimate. How do I do this ??? What am I suppose to do in BIOS ?

why transfer?
keep your OS and your programs on your old HDD and install your 1TB as a secondary for data (movies, music, etc).
But if you really want to put your OS on your new drive and get rid of the old one, back it up to DVDs then restore on the new drive.

This is mostly a question about can the the computer you connect this device to recognize the entire 1TB Drive. This means if the computer is an older model, then it probably won’t recognize the entire drive. You may be able to format it into two partitions. If it does recognize the entire drive, its simply a matter of attaching both drive to the computer and transfering the info from one drive to the other. You can use the Backup feature in Windows or buy some good Backup software. Some sites even let you download a trial before you buy. Hope this helps

well the less complicated route would be to install the new HDD, then install vista , then install the upgrade. an upgrade will have to have vista installed first. Its a bit time consuming but its the easiest way to do it. You shouldnt have to make any bios changes if you are swapping and leaving your old out. Otherwise you may have to mess with the bios boot order( unless you erase the OS off the old drive) harddrive will be plug and play it will find it.
