question about digital systems?

i need help on my national certficate engineering course

i do a subject called digital systems and have a question im struggling with

Describe how two different types of small energy sources are used to support two different digital electronic systems.

the energy sources being things like photovoltaic, and battery for example

i would appreciate it if any1 could help me as soon as poss

  1. let’s look at a typical parking voucher dispenser, as seen in Toronto. its back-lit, LCD screen displays time of day and amount of money; and it accepts coins or cards, and prints vouchers.

    during the day, this thing works on photovoltaic cells. but it keeps working until well-after dark, (up to 9 or 11pm when parking becomes free, and still keeps its clock running until morning.) To do this, it must store excess energy from the photovoltaic cells during daylight, and draw that later. There are two strategies it might use: capacitors, or rechargeable battery.
