digital signals are sent in a wider bandwidth and frequency.
supposedly has better picture and sound on it, but that will depend on your tv and how you receive channels i.e antenna, cable, or sat

analog signals are (were) sent over the air with frequency and amplitude modulation
digital is sent in bits or pieces of information and can be enhanced or remastered to improve audio or video quality.
Digital is either on or off. One or zero. Nothing in between.
Analog there is always a little discrete value in there that makes a difference.

They didn’t do away with sets as such. Older analog only sets can receive digital signals with a digital box. Yes, the TV manufacturers have pretty well switched from analog CRT sets to digital flat-panel sets.
Rather, it is the analog broadcasts they done away with. The primary reason behind it in most cases is that you can fit more channels into the same bandwidth, or the same channels in less bandwidth, as well as provide more advanced interactive and information services than analog broadcasts can deliver, and a stable and sometimes high-definition picture.
