It is hard to say, wait just a little bit and keep checking prices and then make a move when you think the time is right.
Rumor is that Canon is going to announce one or two new Rebel for the PMA show, if they do then it means that some cameras could drop in price. Below are some links that may help.
I remember when the T1i was announced, it RRP’d at the same price as a 50D was selling at the time, didn’t do any favours to the price of the XSi or the 40D. So sometimes it’s worth waiting until after a new product goes on sale rather than just after it’s been announced.
For example when the T1i was announced the price was too high, this meant that there wasn’t much interest, and all those who wanted an entry level SLR just didn’t bother waiting for the T1i, and got either the XSi or XTi or even the 50D. When the T1i was actually delivered the price went into freefall, and soon it lost 1/3 of it’s original list price. Suddenly the preceding models saw a sharp drop in value.
Same happened when the 5D2 came out, it was something like £2500 over here, and the original 5D stayed up at around £1700-1900, but a year on, they can be had for £700. I would thnk the best time to buy is about a couple of weeks a new product hits the shelves, not when it’s announced.
They usually just introduce new models there, not necessarily start selling them. Pricing is more or less affected by demand which goes down when the model gets actually replaced in the market.
