is it possible to make a b&w 35mm or 120 digital negative to use on a darkroom enlarger?
how please explain. I know you can print on inkjet overhead sheets but I want to print actual negative size on them so I can fit it in my negative carrier.

  1. It is easy if you already know how to use an enlarger and print perfectly processed photos.

    1) you will need a 35 mm film carrier and 50 mm enlarging lens for 35 mm negatives
    2) you will need a 120 film carrier and 75 mm enlarging lens for your 120 film. You will need a separate carrier for each of the 120 formats, 6×4.5 cm, 6×6 cm, 6×7 cm or 6×9 cm formats

  2. The quality if you printed your own negatives using a home inkjet printer would, I would imagine, be rather horrible. Film has grain which is very small compared to ink droplets, so you’ll either end up with something that looks like a lith print, or something that looks like a really poorly exposed photo. Ink droplets are either there or they’re not, and they are pretty obvious. Film grain is more subtle.

There USED to be, key word there being used, a few labs online that would produce a 35mm mounted slide or negative of a digital image. The cost, about 7 years ago which was last time I saw the service advertised, was around $10US per image. Honestly, if you want to print in a darkroom buy a 35mm slr and some film, they’re cheap now, and a great tool to learn on and play around with. And, I’d imagine buying and processing a roll of film will be cheaper than having the digital/analog thing done even if you can find somewhere that still does it.
