what was the first canon digital slr?

  1. Kodak EOS DCS-3 and Kodak EOS DCS-1. These early DSLRs used Canon 1-n film SLRs that were fitted with a Kodak digital imaging back. Later these were rebranded as Canon EOS, but based on the same technology. Later Canon developed their own 1-n based DSLRs, but the first purpose build Canon DSLR was the EOS D30.

  2. Yes, I was going to say there was some Canon Kodak hybrid work, but the D30 was the "real" first Canon DSLR. I never bought that, but I do have their second DSLR, the D60. The 6 megapixels was an unheard of high number in the day. Other cameras typically had nothing higher than 3 MP, many only with 1.5 or 2 MP.
