Where can I find the cheapest digital SLR’s in Australia?
Posted on Feb 27, 2010 under Digital news and reports |Preferrably in a store, not online. I have seen some good deals online but I think my parents prefer buying instore. So… what places have you guys noticed as cheapest (taking into account warranty, extras, deals, etc.) ? eg. Retravision, Camerahouse, Dick Smith…etc ? If anybody knows

btw I’m looking in particular for a well-priced Canon EOS 1000D (the rebel XS)

Try JB Hifi discount cameras - I know they have a specialty store on Elizabeth St in Melbourne - not sure about other cities.
Camera House are also pretty good - If you go to one of the bigger stores you might be able to get a price match - and the staff are pretty helpful.
You can try Harvey Norman or one of the big electronics retailers - but you may not get expert help or good after sales service.
Keep your eye on catalogues - and take a bundle with you when you go camera shopping - it shows sales staff you’re looking around and doing your research. They will do you a better bundle to get your sale.
Most camera stores ( and some big electronics stores) will buy from the same suppliers and have what is called price protection - basically, that means that they all buy the product for the same price unless they have a partnership with the wholesaler. So instead of pressuring for the lowest price, try going for add ons - filters, cleaning kits, camera bags, free print vouchers, memory cards etc.
