Firstly you would need to describe your setup and equipment far more clearly, dont use symbols like >>, describe all the cables you use and the inputs/outputs you use. Describe the FULL signal path.
As a rule: Connect the sound SOURCE via a digital cable (either optical or coaxial via a spdif output) to the digital audio input of a surround sound capable amplifier (there is no such thing as a ‘Hometheatre 5.1′)
Your proposal doesn’t look feasible to me. If I’m understanding your sequence correctly, you’re connecting an audio output from the TV to a DVD player, with its output going to a home theater amplifier.
Audio from the TV to the DVD player makes no sense, unless maybe it’s a DVD recorder. Even then there should be better choices.
With your given information, I’d connect the DVD player to the TV via HDMI or component cables, then an auxiliary audio output from the TV to the amplifier. Very simple, and it does everything you want to do.
One optional enhancement: I’ve connected my DVD player to the TV via HDMI and an auxiliary audio output directly to the home theater amplifier. I can then select audio input on the amplifier either from the TV or directly from the DVD player. Useful when using the DVD player only for audio CDs.
