I love my SONY Cyber-shot!!! Best camera I’ve ever owned. And it has a setting called smile detector or something like that and it is really quick and good for capturing kids smiles and the true "kodak moments" lol. I really suggest you getting one.
Do you mean, "what is the best digital camera and who does it come from", or do you mean "what is the best company to work for that makes digital cameras"?
Sony is really the "company to beat" in terms of variety in the industry.
There are a lot of good companies out there. Canon I regard as the best. Never in 45 yrs have I had a problem a Canon camera that I thought had a design flaw. I can’t say that for Nikon.
I own a fuji S20 Pro camera and it produces fantastic 16×20’s. Fuji is outstanding when it comes to standing behind their product.
I don’t want to be mean but you are not asking your question the way you want the answer to help you. Tell us your level of photography, how much you want to spend, do you want an interchangeable lens camera($600 and up)? Or just a great bridge camera (non-interchangeable lenses) with a long zoom and great quality for about $300.00. Or maybe a great quality camera with at least a 5x zoom lens for $160 or less.
P.S. A lot of answers here recommend Sony. I have had problems with them not accepting a product "just" out of warranty, even after I offered to pay for the repair.
Compact
Canon: Best Lens, color, sharp picture quality
Nikon: Good color, sharp image.
Sony: Good construction, low light sensitivity, yellowish picture.
Olympus: Needs a bit more intensity of light.
DSLR:
Canon: again Best Lens, Flawless design, excellent color, So SHARP image with great detail.
Nikon: Great lens, Well construction, Focus point is usually higher in number. Great color & Picture.
Other could be good but don’t have enough experience yet.
For Multipurpose & Safety:
I Use Sanyo xacti vpc9. It is good for waterproofing. It also has video & still image capture capabilities.
It has lot of fun.
Videography:
Probably no other company could beat SONY. Sony camcorder is BEST.

you can choose any from these Canon PowerShot SD1200IS, Canon PowerShot SD780IS these are really a good camera with good quality picture

‘best’ is relative. Some people like leica and hasselblad. Others like canon and nikon.
There is no best.
