Western Digital external hard drive problems.?

My Western Digital external hard drive stopped working. I originally thought it was the adapter, but after purchasing a new adapter, it’s still does not work. Is there anyway to get the information off of this hard drive & onto another, non Western Digital (I’m seeing a lot of problems with this company), external hard drive? I didn’t back up the information on the hard drive because the hard drive WAS my back up. I need my information!! Any ideas?
Thanks, for the responses. Quick question though, is this something that’s simple to do. I’m good with computer software - but not hardware. If I find instructions somewhere would it be simple for me to do myself? I just checked & it’s $100 for data transfer.
