Digital Camera help please!?
Posted on Jun 22, 2010 under Digital news and reports |So my old digital cam is beginning to flake out on me and now I want to a get a new one. I have a general idea of what I want, the thing that confuses me is which type of battery is better: 1) standard double AAs or 2) rechargeable lithium-ion batery.
My old cam used double AAs which was fine because I always used the rechargeable kind of AAs so I didn’t spend a lot of money on batteries (I think I had like 6 rechargeable batteries and just rotating them for the past three years). However, one complain I had was the battery life wasn’t exactly great. I’ve never had a lithion-ion battery for a camera so that is the variable here. Is it generally considered "better" than using AAs or is it just a matter of preference since a lot of new cameras still use AAs while a lot have changed over to the lithion-ion kind? lithium are better just make you charge them to full potential when you get them

The square lithium-ion batteries have more capacity than AA lithium-ion batteries. They take longer to run out but take longer to charge.
NiMH rechargeables are better still, holding more charge for their size than Lithium-ion.
The only good thing about cameras that use AA size batteries is that if your batteries do run out you can put some expensive alkalines in and carry on…if your square rechargeable runs out, that’s it - no more photo’s until you get a 2 hour recharge.

Lithium batteries are best. digital cameras are battery drainage hogs due to the lcd screen. standard AA batteries will not cut it. Like a the 2nd person said, they have their advantages and disadvantages. U run out u have to wait til they charge again unlike just poppin in some AA batteries and ur good to go. U said u have 6 rechargable batteries so if u want u can still use those or imo i would upgrade to a new set because altho they are rechargable that doesnt mean they last forever. i think they got like up to 1000 or so charges in them after that they loose juice so as time goes on they will become weak grade AA quality boo. Some cams come with a block rechargeable battery so be cautious when buyin a new one that u dont get one of those because that requires u to plug in ur camera which exposes it to the outside elements as it charges. Go for optical zoom not digital zoom. digital zoom are the cams that all the zoomages takes place inside the cam while optical zoom is when u c the camera actually zooms out. Best brands are nikon and cannon for more professional type pics but if ur just takein every day normal pics then another brand should do fine.
