I’m looking for a great digital professional camera. Are there any you recommend?

Posted on Jun 23, 2010 under Digital news and reports |

I’m looking to buy a new camera. One that is professional and will help me with my college courses. I plan on taking creative photography so I will need a camera, yet I don’t have a clue on which one to buy. So if you know any that would be appropriate or if you think they are just awesome, please tell me. I understand that cameras cost up to $3000, yet i was hoping to stay in the 600-1200 $ zone. So any suggestions would be most appreciated :D

  1. Actually professional cameras start at $5,000 and can cost as much as $30,000

What you seem to be looking for is a fully adjustable dSLR that is capable of producing professional "quality" images

Look here for a strictly laboratory view of the current cameras available.

For cameras within your budget that belong to the two professional cameras systems, Nikon and Canon, look at the Nikon D300’s and Canon 50D or 7D

I recommend the Pentax K-x, it has HD video, a built in AF motor, and image stabilization in the body, it is compatible with a wide amount of lens’ and comes with a load of other features, like 16 digital filters.

  4. I would suggest Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens

  5. The list is…

Nikon D90 (best bang for the buck and has all of the basic controls found on the pro bodies like the D3)
Nikon D300s (a D90 with 51 Af points, no consumer modes, and a tougher build)
Nikon D700 pushes your budget but is full frame and superior to the other 2

Sony a700 is a great model and features many of the controls found on the pro a900
Sony a850 is like the D700 and 5D mII but with much more resolution at 24mpx

Olympus E3 is the most durable of the bunch but sadly leaves no room for upgrade to a pro model

Canon 50D is the Nikon D90’s main competitor with a few different switches and commands than on it’s nikon counterpart
The Canon 7D is sadly the worst in it’s class although many 7D owners are very satisfied with the camera
Canon 5D mII is one of the most popular cameras on the market and boasts full HD video

The Pentax K7 and K20 are surprisingly a well built cameras as well

I personally say to get the Nikon D90 but you should try each and get the one you are most comfortable with…

Avoid Canon rebels, Nikon D3000 D40 D60 D5000, Sony a230-a550, and the pentax km as you will outgrow them.

Nikon, Canon, and Sony all have pro models and lenses you can grow into as you graduate and are great systems. I personally recommend the D90 because it is the most cost effective on the list and almost doesn’t sacrifice anything in terms of control. Also as a sidenote although there are "pro" bodies many professionals shoot with one of the cameras on this list. What camera you use doesn’t make you a pro. Good luck on your findings ;)

  6. The biggest favor you could possibly do for yourself BEFORE purchasing a DSLR camera is to go read a couple basic books about DSLR photography and see if it is for you. You are talking about purchasing a camera that costs several hundreds of dollars with no real knowledge. Would you do such a thing when purchasing anything else? Probably not. I’m not trying to talk you out of DSLR photography, in fact I expect you will get even more excited after reading a couple books. But the only way you are going to be able to make an educated decision about this expensive purchase is to do some research and learning on your own.

Don’t be one of those people who spends $800.00 on a really nice DSLR camera and then uses it like a $100.00 point and shoot!
