   First thing you need to figure out for yourself is, what are you looking for in a camera? Do you want HD video capabilities? Do you want to shoot sports, portraits, weddings, hobby..etc? For about $799+ you can get a Canon T1i with a 18-55mm kit lens. It’s an entry level DSLR made for people who want to dive into higher quality cameras but don’t want to spend too much from the start.

   It should do perfectly fine since you’re just starting out. Once you become more experienced, you’ll start wanting better performing ISO, Auto Focus, larger sensor…etc. but for now, those aren’t a huge factor when starting out.

   Amazon is great but be weary about 3rd party sites. Their ship dates and item receiving dates can be a little confusing. I ordered some gear and I didn’t look carefully and the vendor said they’d receive my item in 3 months!

   I highly recommend http://www.bhphotovideo.com I buy a bunch of stuff from them as they are very reliable and reasonably priced.

   I also recommend the Canon EF-50mm f/1.8 prime lens. It’s about $100 but the shallow depth of field and low light capability is totally addicting.

   I own and recommend the Rebel XS for its superb photos and build. I have also added lenses to my bag but my favorite is my Canon 28-200 - this package is about $1,000. However you can have the XS with a standard 18-55 lens for about $550.

   Hey,

   Amazon is the best for cameras. Don’t look at bestbuy and such stuff, you don’t buy a car in a drugstore and you don’t buy a professional DSLR in a shop that has everything.

   Canon EOS XS, XSi, T1i and Nikon D5000 is what I recommend.
