Should i get a film SLR camera or digital?
Posted on Jun 28, 2010 under Digital news and reports |Cost IS something that would matter to me. If i got a film it would probably be an older camera, so it would save me money right away (but then theres paying for development, you know). And if i get a digital i can print them out on my home printer, and plus theres the whole being able to see your picture right away and not wasteing film.
Style also matters, and personaly i like the old film cameras better.
Which do you think i should get?
(this would be my first camera ever, id use it more for photography, im 15 so i have barely 100$ total..)
thanks guys, and i do have a lot of photography knowledge actually. Ive liked it for years, my boyfriends dad is a professional photographer, and my aunt (who im living with right now) is a photographer. so im around it a lot.

you can’t even get a decent digi cam for that price

No one except a few oddball artist types shoots film any more.
Heck, they don’t even MAKE Kodachrome any more, so get a digital camera, and you don’t need to get a DSLR, a good compact camera will be fine for a beginner.
The Panasonic Lumix cameras are getting good reviews lately, so check them out and get the best one you can afford (see link, below).
Good luck!… ☺

if your after style get a pink water proof camerra, i have one and its a real chick magnet, i have never used it, currently my uncle bubbas has it
so what do you want? instant images or messing round with film? if you have no photography knowledge i would say get a digi something, - maybe pink

Film is not a practical form of photography anymore. (Incoming hate, but it’s true)

I primarily shoot film. And make a decent living off of it, I might add. It’s just that I’ve found a niche that works best with film…
You can get a good-condition Nikon FM with lens for about $100. If you’re looking to freelance right off the bat, however, film generally isn’t suited for that. It would be difficult to find an adequate digital camera for under $300, and if you can save up before making a purchase you’d be better off going that way.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

For 100.00, you’re pretty much in a film range if you want an SLR. You could buy a Nikon autofocus, 6006, 8008, or a manual focus, FE, FM, with a lens for around 100.00. For film buy a B&W bulk loader, empty cases and bulk film. Develop it yourself, and you’re doing it pretty cheap. By the time you bought everything, camera, film, developing, etc. you’d be close to 200.00. You could buy film by rolls, but developing costs will add up quickly.
For a DSLR, you can get a Nikon D70, or some of the older Canon ones for around 200.00, body only.
here’s a shot with a D70, it was a great camera in its day:

The two respondents who said that film was passe have what I call craniooptical fecalitis - their heads are up their butts so far they can see for s–t.
Film is a viable option. The cameras are physically better and the medium (film) give a better result than digital can produce. You can get a nice 35mm SLR camera along with a couple of lenses for about $150. Now about the prices of printing your pictures.
If you add up the cost of the printer, the cost of the inks, the cost of the papers, you will spend more on digital prints than you will on color photos. I can get a roll of 35mm film developed for $6 with single prints at Target. For a couple more bucks, I can get a disk with the pictures on them. At Wolf Camera, on Tuesdays, you can get reprints for 6 cents each and I don’t care how you figure it, you can’t do digital photos on your home computer for less than 6 cents. If you take care of negs, they are relatively permanent, but the memory dodads in the digital crash all the time. My favorite film camera does not even take batteries, or if your camera takes batteries, they will last for years on most of them if you turn your camera off.

Film is a viable option, as it has been said above.
I was in a similar situation two years ago, and I chose film. I didn’t want to drop the (minimum) $300 that costs a DSLR.
I tried film with dad’s old camera and I liked it quite a bit.
Nowadays with $100 you can buy very decent cameras. Mechanical SLRs are best. I bought a serviced OM-1 for $150. That was a PRO model but serviced, you can get good amateur models cheap.
If you live in the UK or USA you can still have cheap development. There are lots of drugstores doing it. Amateur range print or slide film (great if you have a projector, but pricy) is good enough. If you want to print, digital with home printer is expensive and not that good.
It can be a tough start till you get your workflow going.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

This really essentially a lovely stuff. An doc something like this provides precisely how deep the concept is actually realized by publisher.
