What is a good, professional grade, high-definition digital camera?

Do you want a digital SLR or a point and shoot?
For the digital SLR, I would not be too picky about brand per se, but I would check out craigslist for deals

Talking about stills? Do you mean high-resolution?
The Hasselblad H4D and Pentax 645D are excellent professional grade, high resolution digital cameras.
Of course, the Canon 5D Mark II and Nikon D700 are no slouches either.

I have a Sony a330 and it’s amazing! But of course, I’m just starting out in my Photography Business- but so far, its wonderful! And not too pricey either! Check it out!

Depends on how much you want to spend. You can get Decent Images for as little as 200 dollars. good for 400 dollars. great for 800-1000. or superb for 1000+. just depends on what you want to spend.
I personally am on your level. I like to mess around with photoshop as a hobby and take pictures i can be proud of and impress myself. So i would recomend for you the 350-500 dollar range.
Canon Powershot SX20 IS $350-400
Nikon Coolpix P100 $400
Olypmus SP-590UZ $350
I have the canon powershot Sx20 IS and it has x20 Optical zoom, 12 megapixels and 720p HD video 30fps. I love it dearly. google all of these and see what you think

High definition digital camera is yet to hit the market. Microsoft is still negotiating with the camera manufacturer’s. It would be a new format JPEG XR.
Some digital cameras do offer high definition video, but that is not your priority.
Do I hear somebody whispering low-fidelity…..
For now, pick up any camera with 8-10 mega pixel sensor and you would be fine.

What… you mean Photoshop does not magically make ANY AND ALL manner of low quality crap photos into works of art? That is what most people on here seem to think. Glad to see you know it does not.
Just get any DSLR for your work. They are all decent today and will provide you with excellent raw files with which to work.

What is your price range? You can easily spend about $30,000 on one.

TOP: Large format Pro cameras like Hasseblads will set you back 26000$Can … shoots at 42MP.
HIGH: Canon 1D or 1Ds … top of the line DSLR. Under Nikon I think it’s the D3. These are aroujnd 8000$Can.
MED-HIGH:Canon 5D (or whatever equivalent in Nikon) 5000$ for the body.
MED: T2i … decent 15MP 1200$
LOW-MED: Xsi/T1i 500-700$
LOW: Crappy bridge cameras like the Powershot series.
Sidenote: one camera I can;t really categorise is the PEN from olympus.
