Is a digital odometer suppose to stay on all the time?
Posted on Jul 08, 2010 under Digital news and reports |I’ve had a problem with my car’s battery dying. If i don’t drive it for a day it will die and even some day’s when i do drive it the next morning it might be dead. I’ve replaced the battery and the new one would still die. I’ve taken it to Kia 3 times to see if they can figure out what is draining the battery but they can’t find anything and said its like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I have noticed though that my Odometer stays on all the time. I don’t think its suppose to be on even when my car is shut off. I’ve asked other people and they have told me their digital odometers don’t stay on when their cars are off. So could the odometer draw enough energy from my battery to drain it?

i have a digital odometer and it stays on all the time.. so i dont think that is the problem.. you have a battery draw some where.. could be from the stereo or anything cant really say where unless im looking at it

The digital display uses almost no current at all and will not drain a battery.The dealer should have been able to find the problem through a standard test that many mechanics use.The technician will disconnect a battery cable and connect a meter between the disconnected cable and the battery.That will show if there is a draw and how large it is.Then individual fuses are removed until the defective circuit is apparent.The only way to get to the bottom of this is to have someone else who is more competent work on it.For now,search deeply for a light staying on or an accessory,like an aftermarket radio,wired wrong.Try disconnecting a battery cable when parking for a long time and see if it starts when reconnected again.
